Market to Menu” is a blog series in which I share one local vendor and/or product along with a weekly menu to encourage local support, build community, and inspire creativity.

In addition to sharing a new vendor and menu this week, I get to also introduce you to Elizabeth, blogger and felting artist at Yellow Elm! She and her husband have the most amazing and beautiful outdoor adventures in gorgeous Seattle, but today she is here to share with you her farmer’s market discoveries and the unique way she plans her grocery shopping for a busy couple with little shared meal time. I just love the produce company she chose to photograph and feature! Thanks for sharing Elizabeth!

My husband Ben and I recently moved to a new neighborhood in Seattle and I was excited to discover the West Seattle Produce Company just a short walk from my house.

The West Seattle Produce Company works with local farmers to stock as much local produce as they can. The cashier told me that “if it’s local and in season we’ll get it. We love supporting local farmers.” And I love supporting that attitude!

I filled my cloth bag with brussels sprouts, apples, an onion, and crusty ciabatta bread from a local bakery. I also picked up bananas and some avocados—the market carries fruit that grows in warmer climates too, which is nice for one-stop produce shopping.

Ben and I can only eat together on the weekends because our work schedules clash, so we try to make the most of it with a pot of French press and home-cooked breakfast on at least one weekend morning. With just two of us in the house we also eat plenty of leftovers. Some kind of hearty chili usually finds a way into our fridge each week, and Ben usually makes a crock pot full of chicken curry. With that in mind, this menu is not a solid day-by-day meal plan, but my own little variation for our kitchen.

Chestnut and Almond Pancakes with Sautéed Plums

Chipotle Chicken Chili

Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Bacon

Turkey Meat Loaf with Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans

Simple Crepes

Fiskesuppe {Norwegian Cod and Root Vegetable Chowder}
